AQUATICS (POOL):
Aquatics is ready to provide your scouts with an amazing water experience this summer! The pool is a great place for scouts to earn merit badges, learn to swim for the first time, or have fun during Open Swim sessions. Loud Thunder's Aquatics program also offers plenty of unique and exciting experiences, such as Scuba diving, the Mile Swim Challenge, Troop Swims, and our Big Splash Contest!
AQUATICS (WATERFRONT):
Waterfront offers canoeing and kayaking merit badges, as well as troop boating activities. Please note that a scout must be a swimmer to do merit badge classes, but beginners and non-swimmers will also have a chance to participate in boating during Troop boating activities!
C.O.P.E./CLIMBING:
C.O.P.E. stands for Challenging Outdoor Personal Experience. It focuses on team building, leadership, communication, problem-solving, critical thinking, and self-esteem, and is a great way for more experienced campers to challenge themselves! Campers will go through low-elements obstacles and games, as well as a vertical gym on the new climbing tower. Campers should be prepared for physical activity and to participate in competitions.
Climbing Merit Badge is also offered at Camp Loud Thunder! This challenging class lets scouts learn climbing knots, safety, gear usage, climbing, and rappelling. Scouts will also be able to compete in the King of the Tower contest to be the first to reach the top of the tower!
ECO/CON:
Ecology/Conservation is an immersive nature experience. Eco-Con is focused on the study of the outdoors, nature, and wildlife. Scouts will learn how to identify and interact with their natural surroundings. Our badges include Astronomy, Space Exploration, Plant Science, Archeology, Reptile and Amphibian Study, Environmental Science, Nature, & Geology. Scouts will also have the chance to earn the World Conservation Award, participate in Astronomy Night at our observatory, and learn all about archeology at our Fossil Friday program!
Handicraft:
Many merit badges are offered at Handicraft, including Art, Basketry, Chess, Indian Lore, Leatherwork, Game Design, Moviemaking and Photography, Music, and Woodcarving. Evening programs at Handicraft also include an Art Competition, Board Game Night, and a Brutal Chess Tournament. For any scout looking to learn a new crafting skill, Handicraft is the perfect place to be!
Outdoor Skills (O.D.S.):
Outdoor Skills teaches campers handy practical skills for camping and other outdoor activities, such as knot tying, blade safety, fire building, how to use a compass, map-reading, shelter making, and other scouting skills. Campers may earn their Totin’ Chip and Firem'n Chit by asking an Outdoor Skills instructor for guidance. Scouts will also get to collaborate in Pioneering Projects, or test their skills in our Friday Lumberjack challenge!
Trailblazers:
The Trailblazer program is dedicated to first-year campers to aid them in their rank requirements and familiarize them with Loud Thunder and camp life. Trailblazers will move together throughout the camp, focusing on fundamental skills, rank advancement, and merit badges!
