About Camp Loud Thunder

Camp Loud Thunder has been home to Scouts for generations. It's one of the best places for Scouts to grow from year to year during our summer camp sessions. The Illowa Council Scout camp is located in heavily wooded terrain about a half-hour west of the Quad Cities on the Illinois side of the Mississippi River and is home to generations of area Scouts and their families. Our camp is also available to the public for business meetings, educational activities, camping, and almost any function where close proximity to the outdoors is desired. Check out Rent Our Facilities for more information. The camp has a variety of meeting venues and overnight accommodations -- large and small, indoors and out -- which will appeal to any group seeking that elusive wilderness feeling.

Camp Loud Thunder's 200+ acres also include two lakes for boating and canoeing; specialized activity areas for rifle, shotgun, and archery shooting; C.O.P.E. and climbing areas; and a large outdoor swimming pool. Camp Loud Thunder is one of the few camps with an observatory building that houses a high-resolution telescope for year-round observation of the stars. And, of course, there's always access to the resident wildlife population along our many trails. Learn more about what we have to offer on our Program Areas page.

The Scout BSA Summer Camp program at Camp Loud Thunder runs from early-June through early-July and is followed by two Cub Scout Resident programs. Offering a variety of activities for earning merit badges and developing outdoor skills, our Summer Camp programs have something for everyone!

The heart of Scouting is usually found in its outdoor programs, and the Illowa Council has a GREAT venue for Scouting! Come see the many amenities at the Camp Loud Thunder and you'll agree -- Loud Thunder has it all!!
